Voice of the Witness is a workshop for groups of 4 to 8 to read and discuss poems and memoir excerpts with a focus on each participants’ building confidence in the universal value of her own life experiences and discovering her unique voice
- a communal and supportive atmosphere that encourages writing and reading for emotional discovery and expression
- for women’s groups, adults in recovery, or any group with a desire to use writing to discover and develop confidence
- is flexible and can be tailored to a group’s needs
- The first session is educational and entertaining and can stand alone. It includes reading and discussing poems, and a brief poetry-writing exercise. The full program includes two additional sessions that address identifying your stance of empowerment, and finally, how to shape key moments from your life into universal themes.
Voice of the Witness is not concerned with critical assessments or academic/publishing standards, though the techniques learned here will reward efforts at creating publishable work
