"One day when I was ten, my father played a cassette," Cesca remembers. "I tell myself I can see him reach above his head and select that tape from the visor-case in his truck. That is probably not true. The truth? The chords I heard as we rumbled down rural route 3 in coastal Virginia. The song, I would learn, was written by Kris Kristofferson. At ten years old, I surely didn't appreciate its mature themes. But when that song reached the chorus, I felt different, and wondered if I might ever be allowed to look into a place that intimate, and if I would know how to describe what I saw: I wanted to be a writer." "I like to cook and any time spent with animals. I just bought my first house. I am lucky enough to be sleepless often, kept awake by the ideas and goals that energize me with ambition that I strive to direct meaningfully. I laugh as often as possible and am saddened by a lot. Life is more than we see. What can't be quantified is often the greatest treasure. Love yourself. And love someone else." |
